Shuang Xu

Shuang Xu is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, and researcher based in Rotterdam. Her work engages with installations, printed materials, and culinary practices, focusing on cultural narratives, situated landscapes, and migration histories within ecological and post-colonial discourse. Through her research, Shuang aims to understand the complexities of human and plant movement and their intertwined paths. Influenced by her upbringing marked by the transient nature of home and lands, she reflects a multiplicity of cultures while challenging notions of singularity in identities, knowledge, and cultures. Her emphasis often revolves around situated learning and fieldwork, where collecting, archiving, and listening become essential components of her artistic process.

Outside of her practices, she finds solace in walking and cycling, often going into the forest for foraging trips. For her, foraging serves as a means of meditation and reflection, allowing her to document and reflect on the unfamiliar and map the intricate relationships between species, past, and present.

Chiara works as a host at Exhale on Tuesdays and Fridays.
