Movie Night: Coming of Age

Join us for an evening celebrating the beauty and complexity of coming-of-age stories with a special double feature screening of Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name. These two critically-acclaimed films dig deep into the intricacies of youth, identity, love, and self-discovery, opening a window onto the trials and triumphs of adolescence. 

The first movie kicks off at 17:30, and there’ll be a 20 minute intermission between films to stretch your legs.

Lady Bird
Directed by Greta Gerwig, Lady Bird follows the titular character Christine "Lady Bird" McPherson, a high school senior navigating through love, friendship, and family in Sacramento, California. The film explores the complexities of relationships, dreams, and the search for identity in the midst of adolescence. With its heartfelt performances and authentic storytelling, Lady Bird captures the essence of the coming-of-age experience with humour, honesty, and emotional depth.

Call Me By Your Name
Set in Northern Italy during the summer of 1983, Call Me By Your Name chronicles the tender romance between Elio Perlman, a precocious 17-year-old, and Oliver, a charming and scholarly graduate student staying with Elio's family. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the film explores the complexities of desire, intimacy, and heartache as the two young men navigate their burgeoning relationship against the backdrop of a sun-drenched Italian countryside. With breathtaking cinematography, a mesmerising score, and powerful performances, Call Me By Your Name is a captivating exploration of first love, longing, and the bittersweet passage of time.
